Man, I'm so happy to finally be back to sharing homemade goods with y'all! And I'm back with a dynamite recipe for Home-Smoked Sunflower Cheese. Have you done indoor smoking? How about made your own cheese? Had sunflower seed cheese? I'm going to tell you how to do it all, and why it's worth it.

I've got a delicious new recipe to share with you guys, and frankly, it's about time! This Vegan Bacon Cheese Dip was created last fall, and as a write this I'm just thinking about how I can't wait to make it again. This recipe came together because I wanted an easy but delicious appetizer for something we do with our best friends called "Sh*tty Dinner Parties".

Hi, friends and happy August! Happy August, indeed. It's only the second day, and our schedule is filling up. Last night we celebrated our wedding anniversary with Impossible Burgers at Hopdoddy, and this weekend is going to be filled to the brim with super fun things like arcades, games, and dinner parties. August is always a busy month in our home as we balance those last bits of summer fun with back-to-school. Among other things that back-to-school brings, we like the routine of it. It's been a full summer for us, and we're both ready to enjoy this remaining bit of the season while moving on to the next.

A big part of our full summer this year was our trip to California. The very last thing we did before heading to the airport was settle into LA's finest chips and salsa flight at Malo in Silverlake.

These nachos, you guys. These indoor smoked beets, you guys. Indoor smoking, you guys! I'm obsessed, and I think you should be too.

This started when I wanted to make some nachos for the Big Game, and I thought that something BBQ-y would be a fun change of pace. However, vegan bbq tends to just mean stuff flavored with liquid smoke, and while I'm down with liquid smoke, I really wanted something smoked for real. I may be vegan, but I'm also Texan, and I know the difference.

It's almost New Year's Eve, and I've got a great vegan crowd-pleaser for you! These vegan cocktail meatballs are a classic mid-century American (I think?) appetizer that people just go crazy for. My non-vegan family requests them all of the time, and I'm happy to oblige. They're really tasty and so easy to whip up.

Merry Christmas, friends! This holiday has been busy busy busy this year. In fact, I'm writing this from my Oma's house to the sound of laughter and total dorkiness from my family behind me. This is our first Christmas home in two years, and it's been lovely so far. My Oma's house is like a hub for our whole family, and it's really great to be here again eating our weight in snacks and cozying up on the couch amidst my Oma's extensive old world Santa Claus collection. German Christmas is so magical, y'all.

In the life of a food blogger it's not uncommon to have a highly conceptualized post or recipe turn into something completely different halfway through. My original plan for this post was inspired by Binx, the black cat from Hocus Pocus. I envisioned dark black crackers served with an inoffensive green aquafaba hummus.

It was a worthy concept, but one that will never come to fruition in our kitchen.

I really struggled with what to call these Bacony Roasted Chickpeas. Although I've done it a bunch in the past, I really do try to avoid using non-vegan descriptors in my recipe titles. Even though I love to veganize things I don't love using words like bacon. It bums me out, you know?

However, there wasn't a better name for these suckers.

One bummer about our upcoming Disneyland trip is that the Wine Cellar no longer exists. Fellow Disneyland fans, did y'all know about this place? The Wine Cellar was a teeny tiny wine bar tucked away underneath the Disneyland hotel. Going in for a glass of California wine was one of our favorite things to do when we visited the park. The bar was cozy, very friendly, and never ever crowded. You could situate yourself there for as long as you wanted to drink vino and talk Disney history with the woman that always seemed to be tending bar. If I remember correctly, she had been working there for a while – as in decades.

Unfortunately, the Wine Cellar shuttered about a month after we left LA.

Confession: I've had this Vegan Pizza Dip in my draft folder for months. Actual months. Super lame, I know. You know how some posts just won't come together?
