Autumn is the greatest season ever, and the habits that my husband and I take on in the beginning of fall set a tone for the rest of the year. The chaos of summer is over, my husband is back to teaching, and my big fall plans are ready to be actualized. The routine we start in September really sets up our whole year.
I love routine posts, and figured that now would be the perfect time to show y’all a little bit of my life behind the blog. Mornings set up the whole day, and this is what ours looks like most of the week:
6 AM: Alarm goes off, and I immediately hit snooze. I’m starting with honesty here!
I love routine posts, and figured that now would be the perfect time to show y’all a little bit of my life behind the blog. Mornings set up the whole day, and this is what ours looks like most of the week:
6 AM: Alarm goes off, and I immediately hit snooze. I’m starting with honesty here!
6:30 AM: Alarm goes off again, and I groggily grab my phone to check notifications. My husband is usually already up and doing the same thing. If we’re lucky enough to have a cat on the bed, I’ll try for some pets and kisses. I’m usually rebuffed.
6:35-6:45 AM: I get up and immediately brush my teeth and put on my work out clothes. Most days I do this like a normal person, but I have definitely walked out of the door with my workout pants on inside out and backwards. Luckily my husband knows that I have morning issues, and makes me coffee to-go.
7-8 AM: Bootcamp! My husband and I have been doing outdoor bootcamp for 4 years, and we love it. It’s hard to get up this early for burpees, but we do it.
8-9 AM: Shower and smoothie time! My husband works outside of the home so he showers first. Meanwhile, I’ll whip us up some big protein smoothies to get us through till our mid-morning snacks. It’s Halloween week (Halloweek?) so I made us big orange and black smoothies.
The orange portion is almond milk, vegan protein powder, frozen peaches, and pureed pumpkin while the black portion is almond milk, vegan protein powder, frozen cherries and berries, banana, and cocoa powder. They were so good!
9-10:30 AM: There’s always morning chores to do, and this is when we do them. My husband will put on a (usually football related) podcast, and we’ll clean up by unloading the dishes, cleaning up after our smoothies, making the bed, etc. I also spend this time making my husband’s lunch/snacks for the day. Today’s lunch/snacks was leftover taco salad, dates stuffed with flax and chia seed peanut butter, trail mix, carrots, an electrolyte drink mix packet, and (not shown) some ghost and bat shaped potato snacks.
After our morning chores are done we’ll hang out together while drinking coffee and tea, and catching up on emails, over night analytics (me), and news.
10:30-11:30 AM:– After my husband leaves for work I can take a moment to get myself ready for the day. I love lining up the body and makeup products that I’m planning to use that day. The products I wear are cruelty-free, but not always all natural.
There’s this misconception that cruelty-free make-up is super expensive, inaccessible, and hippie dippie, and while that can be true for some brands, most of what I use is easy to find and not too expensive. My current obsession is this Velvetines Liquid Matte Lipstick in Wicked by Doe Deere’s vegan makeup company, Lime Crime. While this post is sponsored by Lime Crime, this lipstick was not given to me by them to review. I genuinely bought it, and love it to pieces. It’s so dark and fall-ish and gorgeous, and it’s what I’m wearing in the IG video I posted recently where I live tested some pumpkin juice. It’s definitely become a staple in my whole look this fall.
To me, autumn mornings mean comfortable hustle. The routine is comfy, the food is comfy, the clothes are comfy, the warm coffee is comfy, and the hustle is real, y’all. I feel the most inspired and energized in fall which means that there’s always a ton to do. There’s new recipes to make, crafts to diy, fall scents to smell, movie nights to plan, and of course lots to blog about. Our morning routine sets up our days to be fall and work focussed which are two of our favorite things to focus on.
Of course, fall mornings mean fall coffee, right? I love pumpkin coffee, and I have some every morning from September though December. This “recipe” for Homemade Pumpkin Spice Ground Coffee is from my book, House Vegan: Fall FoMo No More, and it’s what I keep on hand for my morning brew. Lately I’ve been drinking Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Coffee since I bought a whole canister of it for my Trader Joe’s 2016 Vegan Pumpkin Products post, but I’ll be delighted to go back to this when that is gone.
I say “recipe” in quotes because it’s only two ingredients that you shake together in a jar. It’s that easy, you guys!
What’s your morning routine like? Would you wake up at 6:30 AM for burpees? How about this coffee??
